We sat all morning at the window and watched the birds
swoop in for suet and seeds.
The fresh smooth surface of white soon lightly etched
with a pattern of tiny bird feet, and tiny bird beaks.
The young squirrels who nest in our Oak Trees were unsure.
Tentative outstretched paws
quickly gave way to enthusiastic dives and
confident digging in the powdery sea of snow.
