I have been totally stymied in updating Garner Goings On, and it’s not for a lack of things going on…really it’s too much going on, and how do you convey the chaos that has been our life for the last few weeks? Robin over at Heart of Wisdom mentioned a link-up at The Homeschool Chic where moms write a weekly Homeschool Mother’s Journal entry. And to make it even easier – there is a list of questions! Ah, blessed focus! It’s the perfect thing to get me going on again! This first post is about last week…
In my life last week…Deadlines: church newsletter, women’s ministry print materials, cleaning the house for the first time in two weeks for son’s girlfriend to come over (she plays board games!). Recovery: from the intense preparation for a women’s retreat at a local church. Answered prayer: Our son’s very expensive (thousand $+ monthly) prescription medicine is being covered by drug manufacturer! Praise God!
In our homeschool last week…Stanford Achievement test preparation. We are using the BJU Press series of test helps called “Better Test Scores” to refresh my daughter on how this style of testing looks and acts. She has actually done very well. (whew!)
Places we went and people we saw… A dental appointment where we were informed that our smiling daughter probably won’t need braces! (Praise God!) A really fun roller skating party sponsored by Grace’s homeschool co-op, Homeschool Plus.
My favorite thing this week was…starting my new Bible Study, Daniel: Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophesy, by Beth Moore. Very exciting, and relevant to my life right now!
What’s working/not working for us…my lack of margin. I’ve grown much more serious about paring down commitments. I had already begun reducing the outside volunteering that I piled on when I was an “at home mom” with kids in school. Some of those jobs still have a few months to go. I’m looking forward to starting next year with a great deal less on my plate!
Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…how in the world do you find time for lapbooks?
A quote to share…You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body. C.S.Lewis
Hurray for the good news, smart moves!
